Starting a home business has captured the imagination of thousands. Perhaps you are one of them. I know I am.
Perhaps you've "chased a few shiny objects" that regularly present themselves in your inbox. I know I have.
Perhaps you bought more "magic formulas to online success" than you care to admit. I know I did.
Perhaps you're still waiting for the "easy money" to show up in your bank account. I know I am.
Perhaps reality showed up early and you gave up. Well, I haven't. (And you probably haven't either or you wouldn't be here.)
Perhaps you've come to realize that starting a home business successfully is a lot like starting any business. I know I have.
It's not easy.
It's hard. But so are most worthwhile endeavors.
Forget about the short-cuts, the magic formulas, and the silver bullets. They are distractions.
There remain some basic guiding principles that apply universally to any kind of business.
Four Common Secrets To Starting A Home Business
- Take massive action
- Stay consistent
- Measure and test
- Do more of what works
I think he has nailed it.
The discovery of these four laws came out of interviews Morgan did with 25 successful internet entrepreneurs and marketers and were driven by these questions:
What do all of these successful internet marketers know that we don’t?
What secret tool, plan, or strategies do they all use that they are keeping from the rest of us?
How can you create an internet lifestyle business that will allow you to earn a full time income on your terms and quit your day job?
Morgan wisely counsels that, while these laws are simple, their execution demands and inordinate amount of discipline.
I'll provide some excerpts here on each of the four laws but I recommend reading the entire blog.
Take Massive Action
The path to success is to take massive, determined action. - Tony Robbins
Morgan cautions us not to confuse activity with action.
... when you spend hours upon hours of time reading blogs, downloading eBook after eBook, and not doing anything proactive with the information you’re consuming, you’re going to get absolutely nowhere. This is a dangerous trap too because learning a lot can give you the illusion that you’re actually taking action.
The most important thing to remember is that you’re probably going to get to a point where you have reached a modicum of success online and you’ll start to plateau. This happens to everyone. Successful people stay consistent and people who fail give up. I hate to say it but it’s supposed to be hard. If it wasn’t, everyone would be rich, have a successful online business, and not have to work a 9-to-5.
Measure and Test
If you aren’t testing out new strategies and measuring your success, you really have no baseline to improve upon. Without doing so you may be able to achieve a certain amount of success but you’ll find it very hard to get any better at what you’re doing.
Do More of What Works
The most important thing to remember is to not spend a ton of time straying from what has already worked. The most successful people and companies do one, or a couple, thing(s) extremely well, and they continue to do them over, and over again.
There you have it... four simple principles to guide your way to online success. But knowledge alone will not make it happen. If you go no further than read about these four laws you will achieve nothing.
That's why Morgan concludes his blog with a three step implementation plan for the four laws. Check it out.
