Social Media

What is social media all about?

Mari Smith says that, Content is King and Communication is Queen. If you’re starting a home business, you already know that social media is the best way to market your business. Gone are the old ways of advertising.

Social media is attraction, interaction, and relationships.

Attraction. The person who first visits your site isn’t interested in who you are or what you’re selling. They are looking for answers, advice, resources or information that will help them with whatever problem or information they need at that moment. If you’re using social media marketing for your business, you need to provide highly useful and relevant information that serves the needs of your particular audience. Interaction. Now that your audience is here and you have met that need or answered that question; it’s important to create some interaction. Let them know that you’re not just a pretty face on that blog or website! Create the atmosphere that you’re there for them any time they have a question or need a service. You want to establish yourself as the “Go to Guy” that is willing to help. It is your responsibility to maintain your audience and keep them engaged. Encourage your audience to leave comments and be active on your site. You are establishing a basis of trust that will bring them back for more. You absolutely want them coming back again and again. And, you want them to bring their friends back with them. Building Relationships. Once you have your audience coming back, you’re interacting and you have built trust; now you can be friends. You can’t build a relationship with your audience until you have first established the attraction and then the Interaction. Relationship is the key to building your online business. Your friends will help promote your business through their social circles and sphere of influence. Like all friendships, you have to nurture and work at keeping that friendship alive through continually communicating, providing help, resources, and content. Now it’s true that these 3 components of social media marketing require skills. If you’re a new online business owner or you’re looking to improve your social media skills; the best way is to find a team of mentors who can help you master new skills or improve on the skills you already have. Small Biz Incubator offers the unique advantage of group mentorship. Through these groups, called Affinity Groups, you have the opportunity to learn step by step, plus the added advantage of building friendships with other entrepreneurs.

Pam, is there anything growing faster than Social Media? The numbers just in a couple years have grown beyond anything happening in the world. Your point of being that "Go to Guy"
can be you answer to success or leaving you scratching you head wondering what didn't I do correctly. How you do it will become more and more important as relationships take time, and we all know time is money. Thanks, for your warnings and solutions.

    • Thanks for your comment Marshall. It takes time to build a relationship off line so doesn't it make sense that it would take time to build relationships online as well?

  2. Pam, the first point you make about attraction, why people are visiting your site, is something that a lot of people miss. Altogether too often you go to a site where you expect at the very least to have some and personal engagement, and all you end up with is a sales pitch.

Far too many people miss the engagement and building a relationship step because they think everybody needs whatever it is that they have the sell. I hope lots of people read this article and get a clue.

    • You're right Tom, I believe that many of the Gurus teaching Relationship Marketing, fail to teach their students the art of building relationships online.
